Info
I don't really remember much about how I did this song. It's an acoustic number,
and it's kinda long and ranges over many chords and progressions. I think some
of the acoustic lead playing in it is pretty tasty, personally. This time I
used lyrics from the Lyrics Marte posted by Mark Taylor (aka DNMark). I don't
know who he was, or where he went. Thanks for the lyrics Mark, whoever/wherever
you are! I placed third with 12 votes, which was my first top 3 finish, and earned
me a mention in the fightmaster's announcement of the winners. The reviews were
all pretty positive.
Lyrics
Lunkhead version: The man who lived next door he told me many things. When our time was gone, he said we'd all be kings. He said that we would have no fear when that day finally came, For the Lord would send a dragon down to carry us away. Well, I don't know much about God or heaven, but all the same, I know that man was smiling on the day his dragon came. The boy at my friend's funeral shared his father's trusting face, So I told him of the dragon that took his dad away. I told him there was one waiting for me and him, and all the rest, And though he listened patiently, he didn't seem impressed, For boys grow out of dragons now, is there any greater shame? Now he'll die believing that his dragon never came. Quick as thought and wise as life and strong as stone, Does He let us choose the dragon that will take us home? When the streets were filled with justice from the hands of many men, I rose high on their shoulders and told that story once again, And we became our dragons as our anger weaved its spell, Illusion shattered quickly when our friends and comrades fell. Well I swore I'd turn dead earth to forest, and ash to flame, But I cowered in the shadows when their dragons finally came. Now here comes my dragon, with a heaven I can't claim. Now here comes my dragon.
Etc.
One acoustic rhythm track, one acoustic lead track, bass, and one vocal track. Very sparse...
Original lyrics, as posted by Mark Taylor: The man who lived in the house next door, he told me many things, Said that when our time was gone we'd all be peasants, else we'd all be kings, And he promised that we'd have no fear when finally came the day, For the Lord would send a dragon down to carry us away. Well, I don't know if there's a God or a heaven, but all the same, I know that man did nothing but smile on the day his dragon came. The boy at my best friend's graveside shared the deceased's trusting face, So I let him know of the dragon that took his daddy to his rightful place, And I told him there was one waiting for me and him, and all the rest, And though he listened as he'd been taught, he didn't seem impressed, For boys grow out of dragons, is there any greater shame? Now that boy will die believing that his dragon never came. Quick as thought and wise as life and strong as stone, Does He let us choose the dragon that will take us home? When the streets erupted with justice from the hands of many men, I rose high upon their shoulders and told that story once again, And we all became our dragons as our anger weaved its spell, But illusion shattered quickly as friends and comrades fell, I'd sworn I'd turn dead earth to forest, and ash to flame, But I cowered in the shadows on the night their dragons came. Now here comes my dragon, with a heaven I can't claim.
