I Want To Get Better

Info
This is me trying to make something funky. Most people felt it was more "blues rock" than "funky rock", though. I am a white guy, I do my best. This one has some of guitar solo stuff that I really enjoy, and it's also got lots of B3 organ, and some slap-pop bass playing, including a little two beat bass hit. I wrote the lyrics for this one, and then realized that my voice probably wouldn't work so great for this song. I recruited my friend Tyler (aka T. Bro for the purposes of this collaboration) who graciously stepped up to the plate and laid down some home run vocals. Several people commented positively on the vocals in particular, and most people seemed to like the song. We got 9 votes, but that didn't mean much since Carol Cleveland Sings, 40 Seconds Songs, Dylan Nau, Future Boy, and Puce (all frequent winners) were all in the fight, too. Puce took the win.

Lyrics

well, i went to the doctor
with a tricky condition
i said "i'm sick and tired
from getting no recognition"

the doctor said "son,
well, it's plain to see
you need to walk tall
and get a little funky"

"if you want to get better
you gotta be tough
cause some people out there
ain't afraid to play rough"
"when they're dragging you down
you gotta fight like hell
cause nobody will help if you
don't stand up for yourself"

so i got a prescription
for a pair of cajones
and when i got home
i reached straight for my bass
[bass fill]

i laid down this groove
and i knew that it was good
my body started to move
like the doctor said it would

if i want to get better
i gotta get tough
cause some people out there
ain't afraid to play rough
if you're dragging me down
i'm gonna fight like hell
cause nobody will help if I
don't stand up for myself

yeah it's powerful medicine
getting on the one

Etc.
Programmed drums (tried real hard to get some good kick drum action), B3 via Reason, bass (recorded the slap pop and finger picked parts seperately due to different volume levels of the two styles...), at least two rhythm guitar parts, and one lead part. Ty laid down one main vocal track then did some cool effected overdubs in the bridge.
