The Song Fight! community occasionally has something they call a "cover fight" in which fighters cover each other songs, according to whatever rules they make up at the time. In 2006 fighter Ken ran a cover fight dubbed "Total Request Cover Fight". First he got a list of participants. Then each participant paired one of their own songs with every other participant. Ken then chose the song/artist pairings that he thought would produce interesting results. I got assigned to cover a song called "Stairway to the Moon" by a band named Theophilus Monk, a project of fighter Marcus Kellis. I wound up doing two covers. I knew Marcus really loved the Velvet Underground so I started out trying to cover his song in their style. That wasn't going so well so I ultimately gave up on that and did a finger-picked acoustic version which I think turned out pretty decent. I wound up having some extra time so I went back and finished the VU version, which is pretty bad but mildly entertaining. Marcus enjoyed them both.
